Collaboration
Celc and BSE continue their partnership to offer the best possible programme and experience. Our aims are that the young people that join us progress their English language learning, make friends & memories, grow in personal confidence, and open their hearts & minds.
Care and Supervision
Students benefit from a leader / student ratio of 1:14, 24-hour supervision and ready access to First Aid and medical support. Trips and excursions are accompanied by competent activity leaders and a manager. Students are issued with an emergency card that carries key telephone numbers.
Teaching
The course has a thematic structure. This provides consistency and plenty of opportunities for students to recycle language in different situations. The mornings consist of three one-hour sessions and these are structured to engage students with classroom-based tasks that prepare them for the afternoon projects.
The projects involve both the teachers and outside professional instructors working together to facilitate both the content and the language needed to complete the task. Leadership skills, teamwork and initiative are nurtured.
Teaching & learning amounts to 20+ hours per week. We ensure that students cover all the essentials of grammar, vocabulary and language skills. All teachers are qualified and experienced. At the end of Summer School each student is presented with a course completion certificate.
Accommodation
Students enjoy comfortable twin-bedded rooms. They each share with a student of a similar age but of a different nationality. This really helps with integration and the use of English. Students are taught in superb classrooms, and meals are served in the spacious Dining Hall. There are lounges, sports hall, state-of-the-art auditorium, bonfire pit and beautiful parkland grounds.
Excursions
The programme offers a very generous number of quality excursions. The draft detailed programme can be downloaded from this page. It includes trips to London, Oxford, Bath, Weymouth, Bournemouth, with options to upgrade to theme, safari, adventure and water parks, along with Harry Potter World, Madame Tussauds, London Eye, Thames river cruise, Tank Museum… Although the excursions are designed to be fun they also offer plenty of scope for sightseeing, shopping and learning.
Activities
Students benefit from a wide range of activities led by our very committed activity leaders. These can include FA football coaching, art & craft, team building, fashion show, art exhibition, basketball, drama workshops, uni-hoc, fitness workouts, volleyball, (student-made) film evening, bonfires, table tennis, and loads more.
Food
Students enjoy English and Continental breakfast options, along with varied main meals plus barbecues and good quality packed lunches when on full-day excursions.
Mocktail Reception and Awards Ceremony
At the end of each week we host a special event that includes posh dress code, mocktail cocktail reception, red carpet, awards ceremony & prizes.
Ethos
Students of any faith and none are equally welcome. The programme will be safe and wholesome. Respect, tolerance and honesty are expected of all students and staff. One of the activity options on each Sunday will be a short Christian worship service for those who want to attend.
