As our name indicates CELC has a Christian character, and we seek to express that in the way we do business and in the way we care for our students. Not all of our students or hosts are practising Christians.
To become a host you need to be able to offer a homely environment and be willing to include the student as a member of your household. Our students are coming to Britain to experience the local way of life and to live in a British household. Homestay accommodation is important in determining the quality of our students’ overall experience so as a host your contribution will be of real value. We look for hosts who not only offer good quality accommodation but who also have a genuine interest in the student and their wellbeing.
While we offer financial compensation, we would expect you to invite your student to become a member of your household for the duration of his or her stay, and to include them in family gatherings and outings. We expect you to be interested in sharing your culture with your student and to show him or her around the local area.
Year-round most of our students are 18yrs+. In the summer we welcome many more 16 and 17yr-olds. If you are able to be flexible about the gender/age of the students you would be willing to host there is a greater likelihood of us being able to place students with you.
From time-to-time we host younger students (12-15yrs) who come to us in groups of 15-30 accompanied by leaders. They tend to have a full timetable while they are here and usually come for just five or six nights. These students are only placed in pairs so it is important that you have a twin room or two singles available.
We have gathered some more information in the Hosts Handbook. Many of your questions regarding hosting for us will be answered in this booklet.
All homestays that are willing to take students under the age of 18 years will need to undergo a DBS check as part of our safeguarding commitment to our younger students.
