Facilities

In January 2006, the Christian English Language Centre moved to Bridge House in Christchurch, a few miles east of our previous home in Bournemouth.

At Bridge House, we have classrooms, a computer room/self-access centre, a student lounge and a small garden. The building is open for lessons in the morning, plus self-study and relaxation in the afternoons. During busy periods, we use additional premises nearby for teaching.

We have a selection of books which you can borrow to help you improve and enjoy your English. These include graded readers with easy English which help you practise reading, full-length English novels and Christian books. We also have a range of grammar and vocabulary books to give you further practice, audio cassettes with books for listening practice and a range of magazines and newspapers. The Self-Access Centre is also a quiet place to sit and do homework and private study.

We have full FREE internet access with ADSL broadband fast connections available to use during the afternoon. This will allow you to send and receive e-mails as well as to 'surf' the internet and find information to help in your learning. We recommend students get an easily accessible e-mail account if they have not got one already. Hotmail accounts are free and easily available and allow you to receive your e-mail wherever you are in the world. To start an account, go to www.hotmail.com where you will find instructions.

You can eat lunch together with other students at the school. It's a good opportunity to relax, chat in English, and get to know students from other classes. We have a small snack shop selling a variety of lunch snacks and other confectionary and soft drinks for you to buy at very reasonable prices. There are also several sandwich bars within a short walking distance if you want to get something else to eat, plus many restaurants and cafes which do lunchtime menus if you want something a little more substantial.

On Tuesday afternoons we use the sports hall at a local leisure centre, to play different sports together. This may be volleyball, basketball, 5-a-side football, badminton etc. We play for fun so everybody is very welcome. You don't have to be a champion! It is an excellent opportunity to spend some time in a relaxed atmosphere with other students, talking in English and getting some physical exercise at the same time!
