|
This page tells you more about Bournemouth, the town next door to Christchurch and CELC's former home. We have tried to give you a flavour for what the town has to offer but pictures really don't do justice to this place. You'll have to come and see for yourself! |
So, what is Bournemouth like?
Bournemouth is in the middle of the south coast of England and has been renowned as a holiday resort for over 100 years. Not only is it the most popular seaside town in the UK, it also has the largest number of language schools outside of London.
So why do over a million people each year visit this town? Read on and we think you will understand!

Sunshine!
With trees like these growing happily in the beautiful Central Gardens, you can see you can see how much sunshine we enjoy. Nowhere in the UK is guaranteed sunshine all year round but if you want the best weather Britain has to offer, Bournemouth is the place to come. It has more sunshine hours than anywhere else in the country.
Bournemouth has won the 'Britain in Bloom' accolade for 'Best Holiday Town' on more than one occasion. All around the town centre you'll find beautiful flower beds and hanging baskets creating a blaze of colour and scents. The town is justifiably proud of its reputation as one of the cleanest towns in the country as it works hard to keep it that way. |
Sandy Beaches!
Bournemouth Bay has stunning beaches stretching 20kms from Sandbanks to Hengistbury Head. Not only are the beaches beautifully sandy, the water is of the highest quality with awards for its cleanliness and safety.
The beaches are cleaned every day and are wonderful for spending a few hours enjoying the sunshine, swimming in the sea, doing your homework or even making a sandcastle! It's always a pleasure on these beaches! |

Indoors!
Although there is plenty to see and do outside, Bournemouth has much more to offer for those days when the sun forgets to shine! We have two cinemas showing about 8 different films at the same time, theatres offering plays, concerts and conferences, swimming pools and leisure centres, lots of restaurants, cafes, shops, bars, clubs, games centres, fast food take-aways... the list goes on. Whatever the weather, you'll be spoilt for choice for things to do in Bournemouth! |

Gardens!
The Bourne Stream runs through the gardens (the 'river' that gives the town its name as it is built around the 'mouth' of the river where it meets the sea). Here you can listen to the various bands and music groups that perform free concerts from the bandstand, feed the squirrels that will come and take food right from your hands, enjoy a trip on the Vistarama balloon giving you a stunning arial view of Bournemouth or simply relax and watch the world go by! |
